AU Softball is Back for it’s Third Season in Rosemont

Athletes Unlimited Softball is back for its third season at Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont starting Friday, July 29 and wrapping up Sunday, Aug. 28.
The unique softball league will feature 15 days of games and 30 games overall with rotating rosters over five weeks of action.
Each Friday, Saturday and Sunday will feature two games apiece for a total of six games a week.
Players earn individual points depending on the outcome of their at-bats, and they can earn more points if their team wins.
The four team captains for the opening week of games Friday-Sunday, July 29-31 are Carrie Eberle (P; Charlotte, NC/Oklahoma State), Amanda Chidester (INF; Allen Park, MI/Michigan), Aleshia Ocasio (P; St. Cloud, FL/Florida) and Morgan Zerkle (OF; Milton, WV/Marshall).
The captains will rotate each week and a draft will take place a few days before each Friday to determine the teams each week. A total of 60 players are scheduled to compete this season; 35 of them have national team experience, including 19 former Olympians.
Recent Team USA players scheduled to compete this season include Dejah Mulipola, Haylie McCleney, Hannah Flippen, Janae Jefferson, Amanda Lorenz, Bubba Nickles and Gwen Svekis. The league also draws players from Team Mexico, Team Canada and Team Puerto Rico.
This year has been different in one way, with an expansion league called AUX Softball in San Diego, which included 42 athletes playing in 18 games June 13-25. That helped build momentum coming into the third season in Rosemont.
Athletes Unlimited Softball became the premier pro softball league in America following the closing of the National Pro Fastpitch league, which operated from 2004-2019 (with 2020 and 2021 seasons canceled).
“Women’s softball is on the rise and Athletes Unlimited is proud of the role we have played in building the sport while providing the very best professional experience for players anywhere in the world,” Athletes Unlimited Senior Vice President Cheri Kempf said. “We are looking forward to another thrilling championship season this summer featuring a world-class roster.”
