New Flashing Yellow Signals Planned along Des Plaines River Road
Flashing yellow arrows help improve safety and traffic flow at signalized intersections by providing a clearer indication for left-turn movements. When drivers see a flashing yellow arrow, they may proceed with a left turn after yielding to oncoming traffic, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
Studies have shown that intersections with flashing yellow arrows experience fewer crashes and improved traffic operations compared to traditional left-turn signal displays. As part of ongoing efforts to enhance roadway safety, the Village of Rosemont is installing flashing yellow arrows at select intersections along Des Plaines River Road. Construction is underway at several traffic signals and is expected to be completed in Summer 2027.
When approaching a flashing yellow arrow, motorists should slow down, yield to oncoming vehicles, bicyclists and pedestrians, then make a left turn only when it is safe to do so.
