SUSTAINABILITY

Allstate Arena has gone GREEN, and we are committed to helping YOU, our fans, learn how and why.  As the proud recipient of the 2011 US-EPA Wastewise Gold Achievement Award for Public Venue Recycling, we are continually working to improve facility operations to conserve energy, responsibly minimize and manage waste, and reduce the overall environmental impact of our events.

We appreciate our partners and fans participating in the following environmental sustainability initiatives, further advancing our resource and landfill conservation.

Go Green At Allstate Arena
Take public transportation to the arena.Coordinate with friends and family to car-pool to events… maybe in a hybrid car!

Don’t idle - turn off your car ignition when your car is in Park.

If you create waste in the parking lot, please don’t litter - use the recycling bins located at every entrance to properly dispose of recyclables and trash.

If you smoke, place your extinguished cigarette butts in the appropriate receptacle.

The Ingeo™ clear cups used at the Allstate Arena are made from plants grown in the USA, and can be recycled by disposing of them in the proper GREEN recycling receptacles. If unsure which receptacle to use, ask any of our staff or Recycling Ambassadors wearing the "Green For A Reason" buttons.

Enjoy yourself… and you can make a positive impact on your entertainment environment as well.

Sustainability Initiatives
Recycling:
ALLSTATE ARENA HAS DIVERTED OVER 350 TONS of plastic cups, aluminum cans, cardboard, glass, paper, plastic, cooking oil, batteries, lamps/ballasts, food scraps and “organic circus waste”. A GROUND-BREAKING CUP RECYCLING PROGRAM was launched in July, 2010. You can be confident that every clear cup, bottle and can placed in a green recycling bin at Allstate Arena is staying out of a landfill.

In July 2014 Allstate Arena upgraded to Ingeo™ cups, which look and perform like plastic, but are made from plants - not petroleum.  This change from plastic cups reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 75%.  These cups are grown, manufactured and recycled in the USA through NatureWorks, in partnership with Chicago-based non-profit Resource Center, FabriKal and Preserve Products - a zero waste, cradle-to-cradle model.

Energy Efficiency
Allstate Arena has replaced or retrofitted over 1,100 lamps and fixtures, installed energy-saving occupancy sensors throughout the facility, providing a reduction of more than 100,000 watts.

Upgrading a 100 Ton HVAC control system improved efficiency, accuracy in monitoring and increased the life span of the equipment.

Efficiency upgrades to kitchen refrigeration equipment has reduce their energy usage by at least 10%.

These advances in energy efficiency have been supported through grants awarded by the Illinois Depa
rtment of Commerce and Economic Opportunity.

Reduce/Reuse Promotions and Proper Disposal of Hazardous Waste
Allstate Arena is working with tenants, industry partners and our fans to REDUCE and REUSE by collecting items such as shoes, glasses, books, coats, used pens and markers. We also properly dispose of hazardous waste such as cell phones, fluorescent bulbs, and more…

Reasons To Be Green
Recycling helps the Earth. It saves natural resources and animal habitat, reduces the amount of trash produced, generates less air and water pollution and consumes less energy than using virgin materials. Eco-Cycle

Recycling prevents global warming. In 2000, recycling of solid waste prevented the release of 32.9 million metric tons of carbon equivalent (MMTCE, the unit of measure for greenhouse gases) into the air. National Recycling Coalition

Recycling creates jobs. More than 56,000 recycling and reuse enterprises employ 1.1 million workers nationwide, totaling a $236 billion a year industry. National Recycling Coalition

Recycling nineteen plastic (PET) beverage bottles yields enough fiber for one extra large t-shirt, one square foot of carpet, or enough fiber-fill to fill one ski jacket. NAPCOR

Recycling just one aluminum can uses only 5% of the energy required to make a new one, saving enough energy to operate a TV for 3 hours. Eco-Cycle

Recycling glass instead of making it from silica sand reduces mining waste by 70%, water use by 50%, and air pollution by 20%. Environmental Defense Fund

Recycling Paper: Americans use 85,000,000 tons of paper a year; about 680 pounds per person. Recycling Revolution

Recycling 1 ton (2000 pounds) of paper saves 17 trees (which can absorb 250 pounds of carbon dioxide from the air each year), 2 barrels of oil (enough to run the average car for 1,260 miles), 4,100 kilowatts of energy (enough power for the average home for 6 months), 3.2 cubic yards of landfill space and 60 pounds of air pollution. Trash to Cash

Recycling and buying recycled products creates demand for more recycled products, decreasing waste and helping our economy.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle...
Environmental Realities, Sad But True
The average American discards seven and a half pounds of garbage every day. Most of this garbage goes into landfills, where it's compacted and buried. National Recycling Coalition

The U.S. is 5% of the world's population, but uses 25% of its natural resources. Environmental Protection AgencyAmericans throw away enough aluminum to rebuild our entire commercial fleet of airplanes every 3 months. Environmental Defense Fund

If every household in the U.S. replaced just one roll of 1,000 sheet virgin fiber bathroom tissues with 100% recycled ones, we could save: 373,000 trees, 1.48 million cubic feet of landfill space, and 155 million gallons of water. Seventh Generation Co.

There are more roads in our National Forests than the entire U.S. Interstate Highway system. National Forest Protection Alliance
