Donald E. Stephens Statue Relocates

On Tuesday, May 21st, workers and contractors spent most of their Tuesday  moving the statue of the former Rosemont Mayor, Donald E. Stephens, to its new location at 9501 Technology Blvd. near the Rosemont Theatre. The Village of Rosemont plans on moving its Village Hall to this same address, along with opening up a Rosemont History Museum and Innovation Center. The statue was lifted off from it’s original location in front of the Rosemont’s longtime Village Hall building on Devon Avenue, transported via a flatbed truck with Rosemont Public Safety escorting, and placed inside the lobby of the new building and soon to be Rosemont Museum. After years of being on outdoor display, it will now welcome visitors and workers as they enter the new Village Hall building.

The statue depicts Stephens facing west with his hands cupping the village’s famed red and white rose water-tower. On each side of the statue are many of the landmarks Stephens was responsible for developing since Rosemont was founded in 1956 including Allstate Arena and the Rosemont Theater. Donald E. Stephens served as Rosemont’s first and only mayor until his death in 2007.
