The time has almost arrived to roll out the mustard, onions, relish — and for some ketchup — for the opening of the new Portillo’s drive-thru eatery at Mannheim and Higgins roads in Rosemont.
The famed food provider will open to the public on Wednesday, Dec. 6 with a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Dec. 18.
No indoor dining will be offered at the Rosemont location which will have three drive-thru lanes that lead to pickup windows. It’s the second Portillo’s of its kind. About a year ago, a three-lane, no sit-down dining Portillo’s opened in Joliet. Portillo’s menu includes hot dogs, burgers, salads and other dishes.
The arrangement to bring a Portillo’s to Rosemont was a combined effort of BRE Mannheim, LLC, the village and the eatery. The site is at the northwest corner of Mannheim and Higgins where the Pine Grove restaurant operated for many years. After the restaurant closed, the village of Rosemont purchased the property for $1.1 million. It then gave the parcel to BRE which used its contacts and experience to attract Portillo’s to Rosemont.
Rosemont Mayor Brad Stephens has predicted that the new Portillo’s will generate millions of dollars in sales leading to large sums of tax revenue into village coffers.
BRE has worked with the village for many years to attract new development.
