Athletes Unlimited Softball Week One Recap

Softball fans were entertained with some great action over three days at Parkway Bank Sports Complex in Rosemont thanks to the opening week of Athletes Unlimited Softball, which kicked off its third season Friday, July 29.

Carrie Eberle was the captain for the blue team and started the season with an exciting 4-3 win over Amanda Chidester’s team Friday night.
Eberle earned the opening game MVP honors with 208 points (90 points for a win, 60 points for MVP 1 honors, 58 stat points).
Anissa Urtez hit the first home run of the season for Team Chidester (wearing orange jerseys this week). Chidester and catcher Erika Piancastelli also hit solo home runs for Team Chidester in the loss.
In game two Friday, Team (Morgan) Zerkle won 4-2 over Team (Aleshia) Ocasio. Rachel Garcia was named game MVP with 196 points for Team Zerkle.
One game Saturday saw a little more offense, while the other was a pitchers duel.
Team Chidester beat Team Zerkle 6-5 after a great game by Team Chidester’s Bubba Nickles (2-for-3, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 1 R), who earned game MVP honors. Morgan Zerkle led her team going 2-for-3 with 1 HR, 1 2B, 3 RBI and 1 run.
Team Eberle won 1-0 over Team Ocasio after an RBI single by Kelsey Harshman drove home Mia Davidson for the only run. It was the first 1-0 shutout win in league history. Harshman earned game MVP honors.
Sunday was filled with another pair of exciting games.
Team Zerkle (2-1 weekend record) won 9-3 over Team Eberle (2-1 record) after a record-breaking performance by Sahvanna Jaquish (3-for-3, 2 HR, 1 3B, 5 RBI, 3 R), earning her game MVP honors. Jaquish set a new league record with 11 total bases in the game. Zerkle (2-for-3, 1 HR, 1 RBI, 3 R) and Dejah Mulipola (2-for-3, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 1 R) had great games for Team Zerkle, while Hannah Flippen (3-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 R) led Team Eberle.
In the final game Sunday, Team Ocasio (1-2 record) won 5-3 over Team Chidester (1-2 record). Shannon Rhodes (2-for-4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R) was named game MVP with 210 points.
The top four players of the opening week and earning team captain honors for week two are Eberle (452 points), Jaquish (438 pts.), Mulipola (432 pts.) and Harshman (366 pts.).
