Rosemont Memorial Day Observance Turns 6

On Memorial Day, the village of Rosemont held a flag ceremony at the Veterans Flag Memorial on Higgins Road.

The flag memorial is the product of an Eagle Project by former Eagle Scout and Rosemont local, Alex Podgor of Troop 20. The Eagle Project is the last grand project done by a Boy Scout in order to earn the prestigious rank of an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. Only about 6% of all Boy Scout members nationwide earn the Eagle rank.

Podgor dedicated his project to the men and women who have served in this country’s military. The flags of all the branches of the military are posted along with two benches for people to sit and view the memorial. Podgor was tasked with bringing his vision to life, and organized an entire plan to accomplish his goal. That was in 2017. This is now the sixth consecutive year that the ceremony has been held at the flag memorial.

The ceremony began with the color guard of the Rosemont Public Safety Department, and included acknowledgements to local veterans, special thanks, closing out with a 21-gun salute and Taps played by Lieutenant Colonel Bryan Miller.
